Zambezi is top, top drawer. He has very dense, crimpy fleece with extreme coverage from top knot to toe. His conformation is breathtaking: solid bone, beautiful topline, pleasing head, and regal carriage. True black himself, Zambezi represents the third generation of all true black or grey genetics. Impeccable lineage, too--both a Danko and Sinopsis Nocturna grandson!
Now retired to stud, Zambezi made a big impression in the show ring, winning the Black Color Championship at two Level V shows--the 2004 MAPACA (over more than 90 other black males) and the 2004 OABA Alpacafest.
Zambezi has more than 40 crias on the ground, and the quality is exceptional. His first cria, Calidad Carnelian, took the blue ribbon in her yearling full fleece halter class at the 2006 Empire Extravaganza; then she followed that up two weeks later with a Reserve Championship at the Green Mountain show. More of his show-winning offspring have followed, for example, Calidad Wicked Good and Calidad Black Sable.
He is consistently producing true black out of bay black or true black dams, and silver grey out of grey dams. Given Zambezi's deep color genetics, the predictability of the color of his crias is not surprising, but it certainly is impressive.
Zambezi is co-owned with Faith and Herb Perkins of Quarry Ridge Alpacas, Salem, New York
