1. Approval of minutes from March 9, 2011 meeting
A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as
emailed.
2. Status of Action Items
Nomination process/ Slate of Candidates
The current slate of
nominees for the BOD are Barbie Tilton, Lennie Foss, Sue Evon and Barry
Meinerth.. Ballots are scheduled to be
mailed out on the April 22. Bill will
provide a list of current members.
Sponsorship of Green
Mountain and The Big E
Alpaca Shows
A motion was made and seconded to continue as the Grand
Sponsor of the Green
Mountain show. This includes advertising inside the front
cover of the show book, banner in the show ring, and a NEAOBA flyer that is to
be included in the handout packet. It
was decided that the inside cover ad
will be for NEAOBA and the insert will promote the New England Alpaca Classic.
A motion was made and seconded to support The Big E as well,
with a sponsorship of $500. At The Big
E, NEAOBA will have a one page ad in the premium book, a prominent place for
our display booth and a banner in the show ring.
E-zine Update
There is still no answer on the pricing for the e-zine or
the quality of the presentation. Bill
has asked A & M for a rough example for us to look over.
3. Treasurer’s Report
The only cost for the printing of the most recent Newsletter
that Lennie received is for the postage.
We don’t have a bill for the printing costs yet. There is still a little over $1000 owed for
advertisements in this issue as well as an ad from an earlier issue that still
has not been paid.
In order to track the show expenses for NEAC more easily,
they will be shown separately.
A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s
report as presented.
4. Marketing
The website for NEAF and the NH Sheep and Wool Growers is
being revamped. They have offered us our
own webpage for free if we join their organization. Barbie thought it would benefit us to join
and to also check with the other New England
states to see of this would be available to us there as well. We would also like to link NEAF to our
website under shows and events.
Once again, we discussed finding out about the fiber/wool
festivals being held in all the states.
This is a job that the state reps could do. Barbie will send out an email to the state
reps to see if they can find out if there is a sheep and wool festival in their respective states. Currently the two new NEAOBA booths are
in the possession of the Massachusetts
and Connecticut
state reps. The reps will keep track of
them from now on.
5. Events
NEAC
The hotel selection has been made and posted. The
panel supplier has been chosen and three vendor booths have been sold. The
second payment is due to the DCU by May 1.
6. Education
Since this is the first year we have been asked to help with
student financial aid and are not quite sure how many students will apply, we
have agreed to a $200 limit per student for the camelid summer course being
held at UMASS for the Tufts students. We
will certainly consider doing more depending on our budget for subsequent
summer courses. It was suggested that
the students contact us directly.
7. Membership Report
As of April
12, 2011 we have 136 farm and 11 associate memberships. This is down slightly from 2010.
8. Other Business
There was no other business.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 P.M.
The next meeting will be held on May 11, 2011 at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Miller-Harper, secreatary
