With 4Peruvian Legacy as his sire and a prize-winning Accoyo GrandMaster daughter (SA Grandessence) as his dam, Leonardo has spectacular lineage. He has beautiful, fine, bright, soft, crimpy, consistent fleece. Solid bone, a pleasing head, and all-around excellent conformation complete the picture of a top herdsire.
Leonardo is one of very few full Accoyo sons of 4P Legacy, a herdsire who is legendary for his fiber remaining very fine past ten years of age and for producing highly prized offspring. Crescent Moon Alpacas sold a half interest in Legacy for $750,000. AML Accoyo Stefani, a sister of Leonardo's through his dam, sold at auction for $70,000.
Leonardo has had a run of wins in the show ring, including Light RESERVE COLOR CHAMPION at the 2005 North American Alpaca Show (Level V), right behind his brother Salud, another Legacy son. Leonardo's first two crias arrived this fall--both females--one beige or light fawn out of a fawn dam, and the other brown out of a grey dam. Both look exceptional. Leonardo's first two crias to go into the show ring took color championships, and one has gone on to win even more.
AML Legacy's Citation
Sorrowfully, Citation passed away June 18, 2009. He was not even three yet. Tufts Veterinary Hospital is finalizing the necropsy findings, but preliminarily it seems as it might have been an adverse drug reaction. Citation was one of the first two crias born to us, and he is sadly missed.
He had just started his breeding career, and his first (and only) cria is due Fall of 2009.
Aml Nicolai

Titus took a 3rd place ribbon at the 2007 Mapaca Jubilee, a 2nd place ribbon at the 07 Empire at one year of age, and a first at the 2008 Green Mountain Spectacular! Cangalli Gold's Quentin
Cangalli Gold delivers! Quentin represents all that we admired in Cangalli Gold and, out of Kassandra, he retains her beige coloring with great coverage. Quentin placed third in a very large halter class at the 2005 NECC and his fiber took 4th behind Riana, his half sister's by .75 points. He placed sixth at the Empire Extravaganza in an even larger, tougher class and his fiber took 3rd, again behind his half sister's, at the 2006 Empire Symposium. His fiber quality is reflected in the 20 out of 20 score in fineness and handle. His fleece analysis shows the consistency of his fleece with a 19.5 micron but also a SD of 3.3, a CV of 17 and a CF of 99.4%. We are pleased to see how well he is holding his fineness.
At the 2006 North American Alpaca Show, Quentin placed third behind the Color Champion and Reserve Champion. Judged by Jude Anderson, she commented about his extremely fine fleece, coverage and his great confirmation. Comments on his fiber from the 2006 MAPACA Jubilee also noted his fineness and great staple length, awarding him 19 out of 20 on fineness/handle and 7 out of 7 on length. Most recently he placed second behind the Color Champion again. Kristin Buhrmann's comments were great conformation, great fleece! She noted his crimp from shoulder to rump, excellent bone, broad chest and coverage.
Quentin is available for breeding at your farm (mobile) or at ours (drive-by). Contact us for more details.

Though he is a brown replica of his sire, one must also give great credit to his super-fine white dam, PPPeruvian Jesusa. Sovereign settled his first females, and we can't wait to see his offspring!

GreyBeard
GreyBeard is a FULL PERUVIAN, elite level Dark Silver Grey herdsire. He is a 8X Champion and has produced numerous blue-ribbon plus winners. He has a light silver grey neck and a dark silver grey body. His body type is amazing! Strong in bone, dense, and fine for a dark silver grey. His staple length grows annually over 5 inches and some of his offspring have reached close to 6.5 inches in a yearly growth. He is a truly spectacular male- one of a kind. Neruda recently sold for $205,000 and if you ask us - GreyBeard has the better overall package. He has duplicated himself in color 8 times - that is 8 of his over 40 offspring are marked in color similiar to him! That is an amazing achievement in itself as this color is very rare and hard to reproduce - certainly with this consistency!

Handsome Devil
Handsome Devil (1/2 Accoyo) has a well-locked, lustrous dense fleece on a perfectly conformed and balanced frame.
His dam, Sal, is one of Tillman's best producing Bolivians.
Handsome Devil's maternal line is impressive as Sal has been amazing no matter who she is bred to and a couple of her outstanding get include Tillman's The Big Kahuna and Luster Supreme.
His sire, Pperuvian Miguel, is an outstanding herdsire who has built the foundation of Super Suris award winning herd.
He has sired all suri offspring and many are show winners.
He has excellent luster and he still locks to the skin.
Miguel was 1st Place Get of Sire at the '01 AOBA National Show.
Handsome Devil is 23.6 micron with a Mean Scale Frequency of 5.8 scales/100 microns on his virgin fleece and 4.9 scales/100 microns on his second fleece, one of the best of the Tillman's Electron Microscopy study!
This is an amazingly bright fleece.
Peruvian whites average 7.5 scales/100 microns.
The lower the number the brighter the fleece.
Handsome Devil is a highly evolved white suri and offers luster, density, locks and conformation.
He produced 4.5 lb skirted blankets on his 2nd and 3rd fleeces and in 06 3.5 lbs of leg wool.
Now that is pretty extreme!
Hidden Hill Peruvian Dually
Introducing the 2009 AAA Futurity and MAPACA White Huacaya Male Champion, our own Hidden Hill Peruvian Dually.
His introductory stud fee of $2000 will be gone once his cria hit the ground this summer!!
Hidden Hill Peruvian Dually
Dually is the 2009 Futurity/MAPACA White Huacaya Male Color Champion, and we are proud to have produced him here at our farm.
Only two breedings remain available through Spring of 2010!
High Interest
High Interest has densely packed 1/8 inch thick locks and has produced five 5.0-5.5 HEAVILY skirted blankets (7lbs unskirted) in a row!
He was the yearling Champion Dark Male at the 2002 N.W. Alpaca Showcase and second (shorn) to Kobe of PVA at the AlpacaOdyssey.
Hunter Hill Dimaggio
Dimaggio has an extremely bright, fine fleece. He's Accoyo on his sire's side (The Last Don), and Hemingway/Bueno on his dam's side.
His dam has 20 AFD / 21 CV fleece at 4 years old, 10 crimps per inch and has one of the densest fleeces we've ever seen.
Dimaggio's confirmation is perfect, and he is the friendliest cria we've had on our farm. He has ultra-fine fleece, crimp (AT LEAST 10 per inch) from the skin to the tips and....as if that's not enough...just look at the head on this boy!
In his first show he placed 4th in one of the most competitive white juvenile classes ever! The 2007 NAAS had 5 juvenile classes of 14-15 animals in each class. The class Dimaggio was in included most of the top farms in the country!
Judge Amanda VandenBosch described him as having "very fine fleece" with "very organized fleece character and long staple length".
At MAPACA, the judge said that Dimaggio was "definitely the finest fleece in the class".
This junior stud is only going to get BETTER and BETTER as he ages.
IF Ezra
Ezra has fine, dense, and crimpy fiber like his sire, 17X Champion, A.L. Paca's Revolution, who is medium silver grey. He also has his sire's easy-going disposition and is a joy to handle. Ezra made his show debut at the Big E. He was first in his class and Reserve Color Champion. Nice start. He will most likely be ready to breed for Summer 2011.
Awards Received
1st/~7 and Reserve COLOR CHAMPION at The Big E 2010 (Judge Helen Humphreys) Comments: Correct conformation, density and organization down to the belly
2nd/~6 Green Mountain Fall Spectacular 2010 (Judge Jill MacLeod)
IF Santiago
We were pretty sure that this guy was something special on the day he was born with such curly wet fleece.
He's a yearling, but to look at him you would think he's ready to start his breeding career, due to his well developed frame. When you see him, the first thing most notice is his beautiful head with short muzzle, correct ear set and shape. The eye is then drawn to his balanced frame supported by a set of legs even a runway model would appreciate. His motion and gate is fluid(in fact, we imagine him carrying a container of water on his head and not spilling a drop as moves about).
And, as to his fleece...
Glowing brightness (like his dad's)
Super soft handle
Superb coverage with a dense top knot and heavy fleece to the ground
Remarkable consistency in terms of fineness, crimp frequency and amplitude, staple organization, and (perhaps most important for a black) color.
Besides A.L. Paca's Revolution, his pedigree includes the genetic powerhouses: Peruvian Bueno (Alianza) and Accoyo's King, Royal Fawn and Caligula.
In Feb. 2011, Santiago won his third Color Championship!!!
Santiago is co-owned with Doug & Denise Caldwell of A.L.Paca's Farms and should be ready to start breeding in the spring of 2011.

Snowfield's Tuckerman
The who's who of genetics....Legacy, Hemingway, Bueno, Caligula, Mr. President!
Density, staple length, uniform crimp, with phenomenal coverage...
Snowmass Andean Gem
Gem is the half brother of Snowmass Andean Bronze.
Andean Bronze still resides at Snowmass and commands a
$5,000 breeding fee.
Snowmass Gold Vision
Vision is a dominant herd sire stamping his own mark on virtually all of his offspring. He passes his facial characteristics, incredibly dense fleece coverage, bone and body conformation to his cria.
STARRY'S Berkeley
Wow... Berkeley has grown and he is fabulous. He has great staple length with brilliant crimp from skin all the way out. He has big bone, lots of fiber everywhere, stands correct, has a perfect bite and a wonderful personality. All of these characteristics placed him 2nd in the North American Alpaca Show, standing proud, 2nd to an equally as beautiful Archangel baby. We are happy to co-own this wonderful boy with our friend Cathy McKenny of IBIWISI alpacas.
Starry's Rastaban
We are so pleased to have purchased this fine male from Starry Mountain Alpacas! Rastaban is a full Peruvian, Bueno grandson with excellent conformation, a commanding presence and fabulous fiber. His fleece is dense and fine with high frequency crimp and a long staple. His first cria hit the ground in July - a healthy, vigorous fawn male!
Since we own Rastaban's sire and dam, we are offering him both for sale and for breeding. Rastaban's breeding fee is low because he only has a couple cria on the ground and we are eager to see more.
STARRY'S Rastaban
We knew this boy was going to be something special when he was born. His dam is one of our best foundation females. She is full peruvian and 3/4 accoyo. His sire is our own Tahoe who is a son of Bueno. Rastaban has presence, perfect conformation, amazing staple length, density and very nice architecture. He stepped up to the plate this year, taking a 1st and three 2nds. Judges have been impressed by his fineness and his crimp style. He placed 2nd in an all white lineup of bred & owned! It is our pleasure to offer this jr. herdsire at a reasonable price to add to your breeding program.

This beautiful fleece comes on a solid, correct frame, which is further complimented by a pedigree that offers a wide diversity of genetics and color, as well as a pleasant temperament.
Jack was only 2yrs old this past spring when he settled his first four females, each with a single breeding! He clearly knows his job, but is easy to handle and is always the gentleman.

Every one of them is stong, healthy and good looking and it looks like Jack has had a wonderful influence on their fleeces.

The Alpaca Fiber Market
By of Ann Arbor Alpacas GLAA member Kara Heinric
The U.S. alpaca fiber market is still being developed. Currently, it's a combination of some cottage industry and some commercial processing. Even just 5 years ago, most alpaca fiber was processed or sold directly by the breeder themselves. While this can be a lucrative way to handle each year's clip, it's time consuming and ultimately the market is limited by the number of handspinners or craftspeople in an area. As the alpaca industry grew in the United States it became clear that supply would outstrip demand...

Chorioptic Mange in Alpacas
By Ibiwisi Alpacas Catherine Connor
The summer is winding down and our thoughts are turning toward the cool
days of autumn. After this season of extreme humidity, the alpacas will
be thrilled with the brisk weather, as will I. I've heard quite a bit
of buzz in the last few months about cases of odd skin conditions in
alpacas, and often these conditions have turned out to be chorioptic
mange. Whether the number of cases have increased or there is just more
talk about it is unclear, but it seems to be here to stay...

When Farm Accidents Happen
By Foss Mountain Farm Alpacas Lana Nickerson
I was reading recently about the high incidence of accidents on farms. That article was talking about accidents that happened to people. It didn't mention about farm accidents that affect animals. Once alpaca fleece is in the bag, what is it worth? The textile

Blue Eyed Whites
By D. Andrew Merriwether, Ph.D., and Ann M. Merriweth
Much controversy and secrecy revolves around discussion and use of
blue-eyedwhite alpacas (BEWs) in breeding programs. Blue-eyed white
alpacas are all-white alpacas, with blue eyes, which are often (but not
always) deaf. Recently some alpaca farmers have suggested that the BEWs
should not be used for breeding so this gene can be eliminated from the
American alpaca gene pool. This suggestion reflects some of the
misinformation that surrounds the issue of BEWs...
Breeding and Birthing

The foretelling signs of imminent birth vary from dam to dam, but can
include frequent cushing then standing, hanging around the dung pile,

nose peeking through the vulva. Next, the fore paws should emerge.

Financial Aspects of Alpaca Ownership
By From the AOBA website and Farm and Ranch Guide.
Why do people in so many countries call alpacas, "The worlds finest
livestock investment?" For any investment to be valuable, it must
possess certain qualities which make it desirable. Gold is scarce, real

stocks are supposed to increase in value, and diamonds symbolize love.
