How to protect your herd
Author: Chee Chee Mamook Farm Debra & Glenn Johnson
We use a llama as a livestock guard. She is very attentive and will pace the fence line if she is not sure about something she sees. If she feels there may be a possible threat, she will give out a warning sound and all the alpacas will stop what they are doing and look at her. If she still feels a threat, she will give the warning again and all the alpacas will come to her. If the llama moves towards the barn while giving the warning sound, all the alpacas will head into the barn. She has been very effective and fits in well with the herd.
